It has taken a while but finally they are here: the new renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5! These product drawings show just how much thinner the device is when folded. This is mainly due to the new "teardrop" hinge. Read more about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 below!
These leaked images come from two sources. The usually reliable OnLeaks and SmartPrix. OnLeaks also often produces its own renders based on leaked factory drawings. The images clearly show how much thinner the device is going to be. Other than that, the design does not look very different compared to the current Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. The Fold 5 is also elongated, quite narrow and has three cameras on the back that are loose on the body. There is not a whole lot of difference with the dimensions either, for instance, the Fold 5 is 154.9mm long while the Fold 4 is 155.1mm long. Small difference, in other words!
Although there is not a whole lot of difference between the Fold 4 and Fold 5, once you fold the device, there is. This is because the Fold 5 is a lot thinner, as you can fold the device completely flat. This is made possible by the new teardrop hinge that the Fold 5 features. The current Fold 4 cannot be folded completely flat, a small opening always remains visible. Xiaomi has solved this in the meantime, for example, with the Mix Fold 2. It too has a new hinge in which the screen actually takes the shape of a kind of drop. So it looks like Samsung is going for a similar design with the teardrop hinge.
Samsung Unpacked Event 2023
It looks like Samsung is going to announce the new Galaxy Z Fold 5 at its annual Unpacked Event. It is possible that the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 will also be announced then, sometime in the autumn. Although normally the Unpacked Events take place around August, there is a possibility that this year's event will be brought forward to the end of July. In any case, we are very much looking forward to the new Unpacked Event and are curious to see what Samsung will announce!
